“We encourage people to celebrate Cinco de Mayo safely with their friends, family and co-workers,” said Jim Ryan, executive vice president of Crown Imports. Representatives from Crown Imports have been distributing full fare Metro cards to celebrants in various Washington DC bars, and retail accounts since last weekend in anticipation of the Cinco de Mayo holiday.
The Metro is the second largest rail transit system in the United States transporting more than a third of the federal government employees to work and millions of tourists to landmarks in the nation’s capital. The Metro has been running since 1967 and serves 86 stations and has 106 miles of track throughout Washington DC and surrounding suburbs in Virginia and Maryland, providing safe transportation for a population of 3.4 million within a 1,500-square mile jurisdiction.
